A new offering from the company parents and educators rely on for safe, affordable mobile connectivity, Kajeet SmartSpot® will assist in closing the digital divide among students in the Fairfax County Public School system
MCLEAN, VA — Kajeet, the only wireless service provider dedicated to kids and education, is pleased to announce its selection by Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) for their Access4All initiative. A program designed to address the need for off-campus Internet connectivity, FCPS students are able to borrow (or check out, similar to a library book) a Kajeet SmartSpot, a portable Wi-Fi hotspot enabling access to school-approved, online resources outside the classroom. Highly compatible and simple for students to use, the Kajeet SmartSpot may be paired with any Wi-Fi capable device, including laptops, netbooks, tablets, e-readers or smartphones, enabling quick, easy Internet connectivity for the modern 24/7 education environment.
“We know that access to school resources on an anytime, anywhere basis is necessary for kids to be successful as they move on to college and into the 21st century workforce. That’s why we developed the Kajeet SmartSpot. With just one click, we connected the ‘un-connected,’ making it possible for every student to access the online resources their school has deemed appropriate,” said Michael Flood, Vice President of Education Markets at Kajeet.
Kajeet was awarded a sole source contract to provide this technology to FCPS in the fall of 2012. Launched as a pilot program in select FCPS schools in early 2013, a limited number of devices have been made available and the program is expected to expand over time as schools identify budgets to support the initiative.
“The unique flexibility of the Kajeet platform has allowed us to launch Access4All, a district level program to address the digital divide, with an option for schools to provide educational off-campus broadband to students when and where the need is — at a lower cost and compliant with our district policies,” said Maribeth Luftglass, Assistant Superintendent and Chief Information Officer of FCPS.
