Flood, an education industry veteran, was selected for the substantial contributions he has made to the education technology community
MCLEAN, VA — Kajeet, the only wireless service provider dedicated to kids and education, is pleased to announce that Michael Flood, Vice President of Education Markets, has been selected by the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) for this year’s Private Sector Champion Award. The Private Sector Champion Award is given to one member each year that has made significant contributions to advance education technology. Flood was presented with the award at CoSN’s Annual Conference in San Diego, CA.
“Michael has been an active business leader in ed tech for many years, including spearheading CoSN’s Leadership for Mobile Learning initiative. He is a true ‘private sector champion’ and is well deserving of this award,” said Keith Krueger, CEO of CoSN.
CoSN awards recognize individuals, teams and volunteers who demonstrate outstanding vision in the use of information technologies and the Internet in K-12 education. Recipients of the Private Sector Champion Award in the past have represented companies including Dell, Pearson and Apple.
“Working with Michael, we know firsthand how passionate and driven he is about bringing innovation to the education community. Since joining Kajeet, he has been a key contributor in developing our Global Mobile Award nominated Sentinel® platform, launching pilot projects with Qualcomm, Fairfax County Public Schools and others, and most recently introducing the Kajeet SmartSpot® to solve the off-campus broadband access gap. We’re proud that Michael’s contributions made him CoSN’s choice for this year’s Private Sector Champion Award,” said Daniel Neal, CEO and Founder of Kajeet.
Flood joined Kajeet in 2011, launching the company’s new education division and working to tackle one of the biggest challenges facing the K-12 market: how to close the digital divide and provide anytime, anywhere Internet access to students. His hands-on approach, working directly with school districts, non-profit organizations, technology providers, industry leaders and others, led to the launch of the Kajeet SmartSpot, a cost-effective, easy-to-implement, fixed price solution that makes it possible for schools to provide students with broadband connectivity outside of the classroom. Compatible with any Wi-Fi capable device, compliant with school standards and manageable via a customizable interface, the Kajeet SmartSpot connects the “un-connected,” an access gap that few before Flood have been successful addressing.
Before joining Kajeet, Flood was the Education Solutions Practice Manager for AT&T, where he was involved in product and service design, marketing strategy, vertical industry knowledge transfer to AT&T’s education sales force and executive briefings. Prior to that, Flood was responsible for the overall company strategy, programs and partnerships for the K-12 market at Sprint.
