Association of K-12 Education Technology Leaders Recognizes Santa Fe Public Schools for Commitment to Digital Equity
Santa Fe, NM (May 21, 2020) — CoSN, a premier association of K-12 education technology leaders, today honored Santa Fe Public Schools (SFPS) with its Digital Equity Award in recognition of the district’s commitment to providing all students with an equitable education enhanced by the power of innovative technologies.
CoSN’s Community Leadership for Digital Equity Award, sponsored by Kajeet, is given annually to a school district that is working to minimize the United States’ digital access learning gap. SFPS, which serves a diverse, high-poverty community, has enacted impactful programs to meet this goal and has increased students’ access to computer science courses and digital textbooks along the way.
“Santa Fe Public Schools is proud to accept the Community Leadership for Digital Equity Award. We continue to work to eliminate education inequities, and see technology as a primary tool in supporting great teaching and learning practices,” said Neal Weaver, Executive Director of Digital Learning at SFPS. “SFPS is especially grateful to our community for their strong support of public education. We would also like to thank our Board of Education for their leadership, making our work possible. Santa Fe Public Schools thanks CoSN and Kajeet for considering SFPS for this honor.”
“We are thrilled to formally recognize Santa Fe Public Schools’ extensive efforts to ensure that their students receive equity of access to digital learning at school and beyond,” said Keith Krueger, CEO of CoSN. “During the COVID-19 pandemic, district action on this issue is more important than ever before, given that the classroom is now at home. We appreciate all of SFPS’ hard work and leadership.”
Santa Fe Public Schools’ digital equity initiatives include:
Providing all students with access to a computing device;
Adding Wi-Fi to school buses;
Distributing hotspots to students in need; and
Ensuring the availability of high-speed internet at a reasonable cost throughout the area.
“Santa Fe Public Schools is an example to us all of what a difference a commitment to digital equity can make in the lives of students,” said Daniel Neal, Founder & CEO of Kajeet, “leveling the digital playing field so that each one has an equal opportunity to succeed. Their efforts to propel the message of digital equity throughout the entire community are equally commendable.”

Not incidentally, we want parents, educators and guardians to be involved too. Being part of the mobile world is not just fun, it’s a shared responsibility.
